This is the 5th and also the last RTW Surplus Center in Starmall Alabang. This shop is also their biggest. They have everything from clothes to shoes and bags! They have several clothes for men but considering the size of the shop I hope they have more of it.

This is the second Overseas RTW in Starmall Alabang. I like this shop because it has several clothes for men. Choices are good and shop attendants are also very friendly. You can easily ask for a discount! For those who are also looking for children's wear this shop has lots of it.

This is the second Magarbo shop in Starmall Alabang. Like the first one they only have one price for everything and its Php 100.00. Then it becomes buy one take one, then 3 for 100, then 4 for 100. Selection is also excellent although this store is alot smaller than the one in the basement level.

A Filipina based in the United Arab Emirates said she owes it to her compatriots for making her Ukay-ukay clothing business a success.

“Sa simula, medyo mahina pero nung nakilala lumakas ng lumakas. Lalo pa ngayon global crisis, mas tinatangkilik ng mga Pilipino dahil mas mura tapos branded pa,” said shop owner Cristy Bulaklak.

Bulaklak’s clothing business is located at Ras Al-Khaiman. With only 800 Dirham as capital, Bulaklak was able to start her business.

Ukay-ukay shops have been sprouting literally everywhere – from the hole in the wall store at the street corner to prolific online shops selling thrifted or so-called vintage clothes.

Why is ukay-ukay popular?

Ukay-ukay is the Filipino version of a “flea market”. The ukay-ukay phenomenon started about five to seven years ago and at that time, ukay stores selling cheap and fashionable items could only be found in Baguio. Bargain hunting is popular because going through racks of clothes to find ‘the’ dress gets your adrenaline pumping, especially when you have to compete with fellow fashionistas who can’t pass up that perfect white summer dress, those lovely boots or that one-of-a-kind edgy graphic-printed skirt.
