This is the 3rd Life Style Fashion in Starmall Alabang. I like the fact that half of the store is dedicated to men's clothing, very few ukay ukays are like that. But most of the selection is really sad. I hate it because half of those clothes are discount shirts from the US! Still worth checking because the other half offers great finds particularly the jackets. They also have children's clothing.

This is the last shop of the 15 ukay shops from Starmall Alabang. A really great destination for ukay ukay shopping. Its comfortable, accessible, and offers several choices. Really worth a visit.

This is the 5th and also the last RTW Surplus Center in Starmall Alabang. This shop is also their biggest. They have everything from clothes to shoes and bags! They have several clothes for men but considering the size of the shop I hope they have more of it.

This is the second Overseas RTW in Starmall Alabang. I like this shop because it has several clothes for men. Choices are good and shop attendants are also very friendly. You can easily ask for a discount! For those who are also looking for children's wear this shop has lots of it.

This is the second Magarbo shop in Starmall Alabang. Like the first one they only have one price for everything and its Php 100.00. Then it becomes buy one take one, then 3 for 100, then 4 for 100. Selection is also excellent although this store is alot smaller than the one in the basement level.

Ukay-ukay shops have been sprouting literally everywhere – from the hole in the wall store at the street corner to prolific online shops selling thrifted or so-called vintage clothes.

Why is ukay-ukay popular?

Ukay-ukay is the Filipino version of a “flea market”. The ukay-ukay phenomenon started about five to seven years ago and at that time, ukay stores selling cheap and fashionable items could only be found in Baguio. Bargain hunting is popular because going through racks of clothes to find ‘the’ dress gets your adrenaline pumping, especially when you have to compete with fellow fashionistas who can’t pass up that perfect white summer dress, those lovely boots or that one-of-a-kind edgy graphic-printed skirt.

This is the 4th RTW Surplus Center in Starmall Alabang, and this is not the last! This just proves that ukay ukay is one good business to get into.

Anyway even if this shop is huge they only sell clothes, you have to go to their other branch i featured earlier if you want to buy shoes and bags. I found quite a few great finds in this shop, But as usual there are more choices for women.

Here's another popular ukay chain in Manila, Iyaman Fashion House. This branch is not as huge compared to their other outlets but you won't get disappointed visiting this shop. They have clothes, shoes, and bags! Selection is decent and pricing is great also.

From regular ukay prices it becomes Php 50, then 3 for Php 100, then 4 for Php 100, I think some clothes even go on sale as low as Php 10!

We're back at Starmall Alabang! I would now feature the remaining ukay shops in that mall, starting with another RTW Surplus Center. This outlet is their third in the mall. Its also smaller compared to their other shops and that means less choices. They only sell clothes and most of their stuff are for women. Very few choices for men. Nothing much to say really because selection isn't that great either.

Iyaman Fashion House is one of the more popular ukay ukay chains in manila. As I have featured earlier, they have shops in Sunshine Mall at Taguig and also at Starmall Alabang. They have more branches around the metro, and I would feature them eventually.

This branch is located at Las Pinas, along Alabang Zapote road. Probably one of their biggest branch. The space is huge and that means alot of choices. You'll probably spend so much time looking at all their stuff from clothes to shoes and bags. Its a good thing that the place is not cramped and also airconditioned.

HOW TO GET THERE:
From South Luzon Expressway take the Alabang Exit
Go to Alabang Zapote Road
You'll see it on your right infront of Starmall Las Pinas

If you're coming from Cavite it's on your left.

This summer, a Baguio trip is in order, not only because the city is the country’s summer capital, but also because it is turning 100 years old this year.
And, if I may add, Baguio City has also become a fashion capital, thanks to the popularity of ukay shopping, which originated here.

The four key places to visit are Bayanihan, Diego Silang Building, Skyworld, and Harrison. Here’s an A-Z of what you need to remember:

A—Arrive early. Most shops open as early as 9 a.m. Early shoppers get the best choices and even good discounts. Call it buena mano.

B—Burnham Park. The best starting point for ukay expeditions. Old buildings that have found a

second lease on life as ukay sites surround the park named after Daniel Burnham, the same planner that designed Manila and Chicago, USA.

C—Check the merchandise. A good buy is something that will make you go the extra mile.

Always check the stitching, leather and brassware quality. For shoes, the soles should not be in sad state, and should still be salvageable by your friendly shoe repairman.

I think the olive military jacket is spot on! They probably differ in material, but the shape, color, pocket details, and buttons are very much the same! Its great when you see these things in ukay ukays! Excited to wear this outfit this coming rainy season!

Ukay Shop 30: RABERLY PASAY

RABERLY PASAY

Raberly is one of the more popular ukay chains in manila. I think they have 3 ukay outlets, correct me if i'm wrong, the first one in quezon city, second one in manila, and the pasay branch being the third one.

Raberly Pasay is our first ukay shop from Pasay Rotonda. It is located along EDSA south bound before you reach Metropoint Mall. The shop has 2 floors. The first floor houses the clothes, while the second floor houses the shoes and bags. It looks huge from the outside but really its not big.

Clothes are ok, shoes are great but i find it too expensive! Would you pay 1,500-1,800 for a pair of second hand shoes from Zara!? That's almost the price of a brand new Zara shoes when its on sale! Some shoes are even priced above 2,000. I usually wait come sale time because i'm really not willing to spend that much on second hand shoes.

All in all it is still worth checking out because they have great stuff, the place is airconditioned, and there are several other ukay shops in the area!

Ukay Shop 29: UKAY BUENDIA MAKATI

UKAY BUENDIA MAKATI

This is one of the 2 (so far) ukay shops I saw along Buendia avenue in Ayala Center Makati. This one is very near the Petron station at Makati Ave. You can park your car at petron and walk along buendia ave. Located at New Solid Bldg. beside Maybank and opposite PNB.

This ukay shop has a huge space! Aside from clothes they also have a huge selection of shoes and some bags. I've spotted a few authentic designer bags the last time i went there. But just like any other ukay shop in manila they have lots of fakes also. So again as an advice do your research if you intend to buy one.

Clothes are a bit expensive, rent im sure is a factor, but you can really find some great stuff here. It's fairly new so i havn't seen them on sale. Ukay experience though is very comfortable because its airconditioned. Again shoes are great.

God bless ukay ukay! hahahaha! Imagine to get the look of this Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 ensemble I just spent Php 145.00 (around $3)! That won't even be enough for me to watch a movie!

Speaking of movies I think this getup is perfect if you're going to the movies. The pullover can keep you warm and when you step outside you can either take it off or just pull the sleeves shorter.

The pullover I got is not cropped unlike the marc jacobs one but it has a very interesting cut. The sleeves becomes bigger as it closes in to your body. Very nice detail when worn.

Ukay Destination 5: PASAY ROTONDA

I know we're not yet done covering the shops in Starmall Alabang but we'll get back to that. For now I'm featuring our next ukay destination which is Pasay Rotonda. It is located, where else, in Pasay city! It is actually the intersection of EDSA and Taft Avenue. This destination has about 8 shops (I'm not sure if there are more) and most of them offer great items. Some of the shops are even airconditioned!

This place is very accessible because 2 major trains pass here, LRT 1 and MRT. If you have a car you can park at the Metropoint Mall basement parking or Infront of the Sogo Hotel if you're in the Northbound side of EDSA.

Denim shirts are very in style now and this Uniqlo shirt is a great find. It is not as thick and heavy as real denim but it has that denim look. It is made of cotton and also very light weight. Great to pair it with white shorts or denims!

This is one of the 2 Octavian RTW shops in Starmall Alabang. This is also one of my favorites in the mall simply because they are the biggest shop in the mall. Selection is also good. It would take you hours if you would look at each item because the shop is really huge. They also sell beddings so if you're looking for one this is the shop to go. As for the staff they are snob at first but you can make your way to charm them for discount.

Octavian RTW is the 6th ukay shop in Starmall Alabang and also located on the first level very near RTW Surplus Center 2. This shop also mainly sells shoes and bags but they also have a section for scarves and a few clothing. This is one of the 2 Octavian RTW shops in the mall so I assume this is where the first Octavian put the clothes that were not able to sell.

There are types of bales :
Premium - best quality - almost all items are nearly new or it was not used.Usually from store returns.
Number #1 -best quality - this is the best item in the many bales found in one container from different companies.
Class A - good quality - sometimes you can get new items but only few pcs.
Class B -good for bargain - items are really used.

If you want really nice ukay ukay, you can get the premium or number #1 , but the price are much higher. Class A is the usual ukay ukay you can find anywhere. There are also items, for bargain.

This is the second RTW Surplus Center. It is right beside and connected to the first RTW Surplus Center shop. They sell shoes, bags, and children's clothing. They have a huge selection of bags and they are well priced, some are even very cheap. But I find the shoes on the expensive side. Staff are very friendly and you can ask for discount. Beware though of 'designer bags' as most of them are fake.

This is the first of the severel RTW Surplus Center in Starmall Alabang. This Shop is located in the first level of the mall and beside another RTW surplus center that sells shoes and bags. I find this shop just average when it comes to selection, i've been here a couple of times already and still havn't purchased something really nice, except for a few shirts. I also find it really difficult that some of the clothes are hung high close to the ceiling! Sales people here though are very friendly.

Life Style Fashion is again located at the basement level of Starmall Alabang. It's very near Magarbo 2nd Look. This shop sells clothes and shoes. I don't usually buy shoes from ukay ukay but i bought from this shop! Aside from their fairly wide selection of shoes, they are in very good condition and most of all very inexpensive! New arrivals are priced at 350 some even cheaper and you can still ask for discount!

I really hate it when ukay ukay shops sell shoes for almost 2k but this shop is one of the exemptions! So this is definitely a must see if you're looking for shoes. And it's a bonus that their clothes are also priced well.
